The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (Jhalsa) initiated two programmes on Sunday during the 1st State Level Meet of Legal Aid Defence Counsels at Nyaya Sadan. The event, attended by high court judges, including Jhalsa executive chairman Justice S N Prasad, focused on providing legal assistance to pregnant women in jails and launching a six-week campaign to aid senior citizens.

The action plan for pregnant inmates involved gathering information about their number and assessing their healthcare, nutrition and legal representation. Jhalsa will ensure that these women receive a special diet as per the National Prison Manual. “The mothers in the post-natal stage would be provided separate accommodation to maintain their hygiene and protect their infants. Additionally, they will receive advice on health and diet from health practitioners,” an official said.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about the rights and entitlements of senior citizens and ensure their access to govt schemes, particularly for those residing in old age homes.
